Fundudzi Cultural Camp
Luaname Mountains, Limpopo
Nestled at the foot of the Luaname Mountains, Fundudzi Cultural Camp is in the heart of traditional Venda territory. Just above the village of Mukumbani, this is an ideal place from which to explore a region famed for its sacred places and traditional Venda arts and crafts.
Just below tea plantations and forests, there are many long and beautiful hikes around Fundudzi, which the guides would be happy to show you. Lone exploration is as always encouraged though. Beyond the plantations, there is the indigenous Sacred Forest and Lake Fundudzi and the views are spectacular.
With its setting at the base of the Soutpansberg Mountain, just below tea plantations and forests, there are many long and beautiful hikes around Fundudzi, which our guides would be happy to show you. Lone exploration is as always encouraged though. Beyond the plantations, there is the indigenous Sacred Forest and Lake Fundudzi and the views are spectacular. If you’re in for some fast pace action, there is anything from a quick run to marathon lengths of track to string together.
Bike riding opportunities are incredible at Fundudzi, however you’d better be ready to climb, as it’s quite hilly. There are plenty of places we recommend you visit, specifically the dam and the Sacred Forest. Speak to the guides and you’ll get a very memorable ride.
Although the route to the Holy Forest is not a technical 4×4 trail, you’ll find more than enough sections of road on which to have fun with your off-roader. River crossings, off-camber forestry tracks, cattle trails and serious mud in winter may necessitate low-range capability and driver reflexes.
There is excellent birding available, with the Pink-throated twinspot, Cape Battis, Lanner Falcon, Jackal Buzzard and Red-eyed pigeon among the birds visible at Fundudzi.

The Land of the Venda
Visitors to Fundudzi have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a beautiful environment. In a hugely fertile valley with modern tea plantations, the real gems are the natural areas with forests, lakes, rivers and waterfalls. The area is well populated with rural villages, and tourists will be spoilt for choice visiting crafters, manufacturers of Minwenda (traditional Venda clothing), Malungu (traditional beads) and Makunda (traditional bangles). Interested in truly local art? Many artists, potters and crafters work in the area.
